It was just another night for junior quarterback Wyatt Peterson and the Pacelli Vikings. Peterson paced the Viking offensive attack, completing 6-of-10 passes for 121 yards to lead Pacelli to a 35-0 victory over Central-Talbotton Friday night at Diemel Field.
Peterson ended the night with four total touchdowns, three from the air and one from the ground.
"Our offense did exactly what we wanted to do tonight," said Pacelli coach Randy Grace. "We executed the option very well, but we still left some points up off the board, which is disappointing."
With the victory, Pacelli opens up Region 4-A play 1-0 and improves to 4-0 this season for the first time since 2007.
The Pacelli defense set the tone for the game right from the beginning as sophomore Luke Dawahare intercepted a Devante Mathis pass on the second play from scrimmage.
After picking up a first down on the ground, Peterson found Luke Dawahare for a 29-yard touchdown to put the Vikings out in front 7-0.
On the following drive, Central-Talbotton drove the ball into the red zone but came up short on a fourth-down conversion. After Mathis found Tevin Carter for a 36-yard pass to put the Eagles on the Pacelli 15, the offense stalled gaining only 1 yard on four plays as they turned the ball over on downs.
After failing to score on its second drive of the game, Pacelli's defense held strong once again forcing Central-Talbotton to punt to give the Vikings the ball on their 29.
On the second play of the drive, Peterson found Luke Dawahare for a 13-yard pass and later in the drive Dawahare ran for 16 yards to bring the ball to midfield. There, Peterson hit Deandre Bowman on a screen pass for a gain of 24 yards to put the Vikings into the redzone.
Just a play later, a play action pass found Jay Dawahare in the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown pass.
To open up the second half, Pacelli put together one of its most impressive drives of the game. Starting the drive on its 22, the Vikings kept the ball on the ground gaining two first downs including a fourth-and-two conversion on a quarterback sneak. Then, Bowman blasted past the defense on a 48-yard counter run to put the Vikings on the Central-Talbotton's 5-yard line. After a penalty, Peterson ended the drive on a 10-yard option run.
The final Pacelli touchdown of the game was set up after Rehak blocked a punt giving the Vikings the ball inside the 10. A play later, Bowman ran the ball into the endzone for a touchdown.
