A 39-year-old Florida man died Tuesday afternoon after he struck a stick and lost control of his motorcycle on J.R. Allen Parkway, authorities said.
Samuel Efurd of Campbellton, Fla., was pronounced dead at The Medical Center in Columbus about an hour after the 5:30 p.m. accident near Second Avenue.
In a report from a witness, police said Efurd was traveling in the left lane when he tried to avoid a stick in the roadway. The motorcyclist ended up striking the stick and losing control of the bike before hitting a tree about 400 feet west of Second Avenue.
The accident remains under investigation by the motor squad division of the Columbus Police Department.
Efurd was the second victim of a traffic accident on Tuesday. Larry Lamar Jones, 21, died after his Kia collided with another car on Buena Vista Road about 7:15 a.m.
