A 34-year-old Columbus roofer died today after falling through the roof of a warehouse building at 4801 Cargo Drive, authorities said.
Gary Vielweber was pronounced dead at The Medical Center an hour after falling more than 20 feet to the concrete floor of the warehouse, said Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley. A cause of death hasn’t been determined but Worley said it possible the man sustained a ruptured aorta during the fall.
An autopsy will be performed at the crime lab in Atlanta on Thursday, he said.
“It hurt him pretty bad,” Worley said. “He fell through the roof on to the concrete.”
Vielweber may have been working on the roof before the accident, the deputy coroner said.
Worley said an investigation into the death will be conducted by the coroner’s office and the Columbus Police Department.
