Accused shoplifter struggles with police, gets arrested

Published: October 9, 2012

A woman accused of shoplifting more than $800 in items from Peachtree Mall was arrested Saturday after a struggle, Columbus police said.

Amanda Michelle Walker, 30, of Salem, Ala. is charged with theft by shoplifting and obstruction of an officer, reports state.

Police say Walker was seen taking fragrances, makeup, sunglasses and clothing from a mall store. She then put the items in a stolen $199 purse and left the store without paying for them.

An officer working at the mall told Walker to stop. Instead Walker began to run from the area, though she was arrested after a brief struggle, reports state.
