Joe PaulL/jpaull@ledger-enquirer.comThe second phase of the D.A. Turner expansion project will include a new group fitness room in front of the bulding, work on the lobby and a new welcome area. Both phases of the project are expected to be completed by the beginning of summer 2013.

The first phase of renovation work at Columbus' D.A. Turner YMCA is nearing completion, and the full project is expected to wrap up by early summer 2013.

"We are progressing to provide the needs of the community," said Fred Gramling, physical director for D.A. Turner YMCA, located at 4384 Warm Springs Road.

The first phase of the two-phase project should be done around the end of October or early November, Gramling said.

That phase includes adult locker rooms, a multipurpose room/nursery room, a pavilion and a fitness room extension that's already open.

The second phase of the renovation project is under way. It spans work on the lobby/welcome area, the front of the building and a new group fitness area. That phase should be done by the beginning of summer 2013, according to Gramling.

The project began in the late spring/early summer of this year, Gramling said. The renovations have not impacted the hours of operation, he added.
