Bremen 55, Spencer 26: Blue Devils breeze past Greenwave in Region 5-AA game

Bremen flattened Spencer on Friday night. With a prolific offense, a defense that got the stops on third and fourth downs when needed and a high-powered special team, the Blue Devils (4-3, 3-2 Region 5-AA) breezed to a 55-26 victory over theGreenwave (2-4, 2-2 Region 5-AA).

The game started off great for the Blue Devils, with a 56-yard drive down the field that culminated with an 8-yard touchdown run by Cameron Porter. The Greenwave responded with a 42-yard touchdown pass from Tarvaraska Davis to Richard Jones but failed on a two-point conversion to make the score 7-6.

Porter scored another touchdown on a 16-yard run on the next Bremen drive, and then he ran the ball in for a two-point conversion. After a failed fourth down attempt by the Greenwave, Voltaire Driver ran in a 1-yard touchdown run for Bremen. Spencer retaliated with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Davis to Jones to bring the score to 22-14 after a 2-point conversion.

Quarterback Trent McClure decided to have his own passing touchdown on the ensuing Bremen drive, connecting with Sean Stassie for 15 yards, just before the half. With the teams going into the locker rooms, the score held at 28-14 after a missed PAT by Bremen.

To open the half, Spencer scored on a screen pass from Davis to Damarkus Robins, who ran it 51 yards for the six. The Greenwave attempted a second 2-point conversion, but failed. With the score at 28-20, Voltaire Driver ran in another touchdown for 6 yards. The Blue Devils then failed to convert their own 2-point conversion, bringing the score to 34-20.

Josh Johnson intercepted two of Spencer's passes on their next two drives, with Driver scoring a touchdown in between and after the picks, with a 2-yard and 21-yard run respectively, bringing the score to 48-20. Davis passed for one more touchdown for 59 yards, to raise the score up to 48-26.

The Blue Devils tacked 7 more onto the board, with an 8-yard run from Porter, to seal Spencer's fate. With time running out in the fourth quarter, Bremen won 55-26.

Bremen's offense rushed for 538 yards, with Driver going 176 yards on 24 carries and four touchdowns, McClure going 175 yards on 12 carries, and Porter going 117 yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns. McClure also went 1 for 2 in the air with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Sean Stassie. Joe Bexley accounted for two sacks and two tackles for a loss for the Blue Devil defense. Brody Doss had three kickoff returns for 96 yards.

Spencer's offense totaled 407 yards, with quarterback Davis going 12 for 24 for 290 yards and four touchdowns.
