A veteran of three wars, Plumley died on Oct. 10 at the age of 92. He was most well known as the sergeant major under then Lt. Col. Hal Moore in the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment during the Vietnam Battle of Ia Drang in 1965. Sam Elliott portrayed Plumley in the film "We Were Soldiers." 10.16.12 ROBIN TRIMARCHI
