Phenix City police arrest suspect in 4 robberies

The Phenix City Police Department Criminal Investigation Division has arrested 18-year-old Deseontez Sharkey of Phenix City who is a suspect in four armed robberies in Phenix City.

Sharkey, has been charged with four counts of robbery in the first degree in Phenix City and one count of robbery in the first degree in the Russell County sheriff's jurisdiction.

The police say Sharkey was involved in the Sept. 10 armed robbery of Castle Fuels, 3814 Opelika Road and an Oct. 7 armed robbery at the same store. They say Sharkey was also involved in the Oct. 13 armed robbery of Jetway, 17 Ashwood Drive, and the Oct. 24 armed robbery of the Dollar General, 7 West Ridge Drive. Phenix City Police Captain Frank Ivey said Sharkey was involved in another robbery in another part of Russell County.

Sharkey was arrested without incident today in the 400 block of 16th Avenue South in Phenix City. He is in the Russell County Jail.
