BAINBRIDGE 48, NORTHSIDE 7: Bearcats maul Patriots

October 26, 2012

Bainbridge rushed for a whopping 534 yards en route to handing Northside a 48-7 defeat on Friday at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium. The win moves the Bearcats to 5-3 overall and evens their Region 1 AAAAA record at 2-2. Northide falls to 2-5-1 overall and 0-3 in region play.

"They (Bainbridge) are a good football team and they run the ball extremely well," said Northside head coach Paul Cates. "We played hard and fought, but with some injuries and only a three-day prep for their running game, it was hard for us to get a good picture of their offense."

Bainbridge took the opening kickoff and, after a Cameron McDowell 33-yard kickoff return to the Bearcat 45, took just four plays to sit at first-and-goal from the Patriot 9-yard-line. Terry Lewis gained four yards, but was stripped of the ball and Northside's James Young recovered to kill the threat.

The Patriots moved the ball out to the 21 and appeared to be on the move themselves. A Jonathan Karastury pass to Brady Pitts would have given a first down, but Pitts had the ball jarred loose and Bainbridge's McDowell recovered at the Patriot 34.

Two plays later, Lewis rambled into the endzone from 10 yards out. Daniel Provence missed the point-after to make it 6-0 with 7:39 to play in the opening period.

Bainbridge would add another score late in the period as Damian Bouie scored on a nine-yard keeper with 18 seconds left.

The play capped a 10-play, 73-yard drive with Bouie rushing for 45 of those yards. Provence added the extra point and the lead was 13-0.

Northside finally got on the board early in the second quarter on a couple of highlight-reel plays. D.J. Moore returned a Bainbridge punt 44 yards to the Bearcat 28. On the first play from scrimmage, Karastury heaved a pass to the endzone that T.J. Moore and a Bainbridge defender fought for.

The ball was tipped up and fell into the hands of Moore as he laid on his back for the touchdown.
