Each time Shaw High quarterback Chandler Whittlesey took the snap and rolled to his right, it seemed a big play was waiting to happen.
Whittlesey made plays with his feet and his arm, helping the Raiders thump arch-rival Columbus High 49-0 Friday night at Kinnett Stadium, spoiling Senior Night for the Blue Devils.
Whittlesey accounted for two touchdowns through the air in the first quarter, hooking up with Johntez Webb and Lavante Williams on touchdown passes of 46 and 5 yards respectively while staking Shaw to a 23-0 halftime lead.
Columbus never recovered after the Raiders piled on 20 second-quarter points, then scored on their two opening second-half possessions to build an insurmountable lead.
Webb caught a pass for a score and also scored on a 20-yard scamper in the first half.
"Chandler is the best quarterback in 4-A football," said Shaw coach Kyle Adkins, whose team improved to 4-4 overall, 2-3 in Region 5-AAAA.
"I've said that all year long about him. When he comes to play, he's awfully hard to contain."
Whittlesey finished the game with 289 yards passing on 16-of-29 while playing just the first three quarters. He threw completions to seven different receivers. The Raiders rolled up 568 yards of total offense, while holding the Blue Devils to just 101 yards.
Columbus gave the Raiders all it could handle to open the game, keeping Shaw out of the endzone on its opening drive. The Raiders settled for 22-yard field goal from Hunter Eaton.
The Blue Devils then drove 41 yards on 11 plays only to have their 39-yard field goal attempt from Ryan Anderson fail.
