Hurricane Sandy impact: Carmike Cinemas reschedules third-quarter earnings release for Thursday morning

October 29, 2012

The wrath of Hurricane Sandy, a superstorm barreling into the U.S. mid-Atlantic and southern New England, has rippled to a Columbus company and its third-quarter earnings report.

Carmike Cinemas, the movie-theater company headquartered in downtown Columbus, said today it has postponed the release of its financial report from Tuesday afternoon until Thursday morning.

The decision was made after the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq exchange halted trading today and Tuesday. The exchanges said they planned to open Wednesday “conditions permitting.” Carmike's stock is traded via Nasdaq.

Carmike said it will issue its earnings report before the markets open Thursday, with a conference call and webcast with research analysts scheduled for 8:30 a.m.

The motion-picture exhibitor operates 233 theaters (2,245 screens) in 35 states.

Wall Street analysts project the company will post revenue of just over $130 million, with a profit of 16 cents per share.
