Fort Dale 41, Glenwood 38: Gators eliminated in first round of AISA state playoffs

Undone by final touchdown pass in overtime

November 3, 2012

Greenville, Ala. -- Fort Dale's outstanding quarterback Chip Taylor threw a 15-yard scoring pass to Dow Taylor in overtime as the Eagles eliminated Glenwood in the first round of the AISA class AAA playoffs by a score of 41-38.

The Gators opened the overtime but were held to a field goal try and Wilson hit it from 32-yards out to give Glenwood a 38-35 lead.

Taylor, who is only a junior, hit the pass to his seldom used wingback on a third down from the 15 after missing his first pass, That allowed the Eagles to advance to the second round of the playoffs next week on the road and the improved to 8-3 while the Gators fell to 7-4.

The touchdown offset a great performance by the Gators in the final; period and by Denney and Daley individually. Glenwood scored 21 points in the final stanza and tied the game at 35-35 on Denney third TD run of the game, this one from 5 yards out with 1:12 in regulation.

Denney finished with 17 carries for 98 yards and three rushing TDs and caught 5 passes for 155 yards and a TD.
