Smyre leading Arencibia in House District 135

benw@ledger-enquirer.comNovember 6, 2012

State Rep. Calvin Smyre, the dean of the local Legislative delegation in Columbus, was leading his race over challenger Danny Arencibia for House District 135.

In unofficial returns, Smyre was leading by a 74 percent to 26 percent vote margin over Arencibia.

With almost 38 years in the House, Smyre said he wants to return to the General Assembly to tackle issues such as senior citizens, veterans, education and tax relief for homeowners.

Although it was his first run for office, Arencibia jumped into the race to call attention to crime and vacant buildings scattered throughout the city.
