Smiths Station wins third place Class 6A state meet

The Smiths Station boys cross country team came in third in the AHSAA Class 6A state meet on Saturday at Oakville Indian Mounds Park and Museum in Mouton, Ala.

Vestavia Hills won with 67 points, followed by Mountain Brook with 77 and Smiths Station 85.

Reid McClenny led the Panthers with a third-place finish in 16 minutes, 4.28 seconds.

Austin Stewart finished sixth in 16:21.50. Both earned all-state honors.

Smiths Station's other runners were Kyle Britt (16th), Antonio Morgan (31st) and Jerric McCoy (36th).

The Smiths Station girls came in 13th with 348 points. Mountain Brook won the title with 28.

In Georgia, Shaw's Hakeem Mustafaa finished fourth in the GHSA Class AAAA boys meet in Carrollton.

He was running as an individual.

The Columbus boys finished 14th in the AAAA meet with 371 points. Marist won with 44.

The Columbus runners were Joseph Bridges (26th, 17:45.74), Zach Saucier (33rd, 18:02.52), Connor Gilpatrick (93rd, 18:53.46); Clayton Slake (94th, 18:53.79) and Jake Cooper (142nd, 19:32.69).

The Columbus girls also finished 14th.

The Lady Blue Devils had 390 points. Marist won with 46.

The Columbus runners were Raja Gonzalez (53rd, 22;54.28), Morgan Stockdil (70th, 23:21.18), Mary Catherine Martin (72nd, 23:24.14), Margaret Williams (104th, 24:17.08) and Erin Moore (110th, 24:29.77).

In the Class AAAAA boys race, Northside finished 28th with 684 points and Harris County was 32nd with 973. McIntosh won with 54.

Northside's runners were Abraham Perez (30th, 17:56.85), Austin Kidd (136th, 19:21.61), Cody Myers (164th, 19:55.75), Caleb Huckaby (178th, 20:10,42); Gamaliel Torres (199th, 20:55.99).

Harris County's runners were Chance Walker (141st, 19:30.62), Cody McCrady (215, 21:52.26), Justin Daniel (220, 23:40.70), Christian Hinton (221, 23:48.45), Patrick Guthrie (222, 24:16.20).

The Northside girls finished 25th with 703 points. Dunwoody won with 86.

Northside's runners were Brealle Henry (63, 22:18.54), Morgan Ryffe (95, 22:56.32), Cassie Ray (170, 24:45.57), Tiera Roberts (25:05.43), Sarah Thorne (216, 28:47.48).
