Published: November 13, 2012

D'Angelo Harrison had 22 points, Phil Greene scored a career-high 20 and the St. John's Red Storm celebrated coach Steve Lavin's return to the sidelines with a 77-74 win over the Detroit Titans.

Amir Garrett contributed a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Red Storm (1-0), while freshman Chris Obekpa totaled 11 boards and a school- record eight blocks.

Lavin was forced away from the team last season as he recovered from prostate cancer.

Ray McCallum paced Detroit (1-1) with 21 points. Jason Calliste had a well- rounded performance for the Titans, finishing with 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Detroit was up 37-29 at halftime and continued to lead well into the second half. But the Red Storm used a 14-2 run to erase a seven-point deficit and take a 67-62 lead with three-plus minutes remaining.
