Pelosi will stay as House Democratic leader

Published: November 14, 2012

Nancy Pelosi will remain as House Democratic leader.

The California congresswoman told a meeting of the House Democratic Caucus Wednesday she's staying. Pelosi, the first woman to be Speaker of the House, will lead about 200 House Democrats in the 113th Congress.

The party appears to have picked up seven seats in last week's election. Republicans expect to control 235 seats.

There has been widespread speculation Pelosi would step down as leader, and Tuesday, she would only tell a news conference she would have more to say Wednesday.
