Organizers of today's 11 a.m. funeral for the Rev. J.H. Flakes Jr. expect an overflow crowd at Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church, 222 Fifth St. in Columbus.

They have made the following accommodations for as many mourners as possible to see or hear the tribute to the late civil rights activist and community leader:

• Off-site parking will be available at the Columbus Civic Center, Lots B and C. A shuttle will run between the lots and the church, starting at 9:30 a.m., every 10-15 minutes.

• Closed-circuit televisions will allow the service to be viewed in other church rooms outside the 1,000-seat sanctuary: Harris Hall (the former sanctuary), as well as the banquet hall and nursery in the education building, adjacent to the sanctuary.

• Davis Broadcasting stations WKZJ-FM 92.7 and WOKS-AM 1340 will air the funeral live.

• The funeral also will be streamed live on the church's website, www.4thst.org.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be sent as donations to the Rev J.H. Flakes Jr. Memorial Fund at the Chattahoochee Valley Community Foundation, 1340 13th St., Columbus, GA 31906. The fund will be used for scholarships and support of the Fourth Street Daycare Academy.

Live video of the funeral can be viewed http://www.4thst.org/.
