Recap: Minnesota vs. Tennessee St

Rodney Williams scored a game-high 15 points as he helped guide the Minnesota Golden Gophers to a convincing 72-43 win over the Tennessee State Tigers at Williams Arena.

Williams also brought in seven boards for the Golden Gophers (3-0). Andre Hollins and Austin Hollins chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively.

For the Tigers (0-3), Kellen Thornton recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards. Jordan Cyphers and Robert Covington added 10 points a piece.

Minnesota opened on a 9-0 run and never looked back, eventually taking a 39-21 advantage at the break. Tennessee was held to a mere eight field goals for the first 20 minutes of play.

The Golden Gophers continued their solid play in the second half, hitting 13- of-27 (.481) from the field, while at the same time limiting the visitors to just 6-of-32 success from the floor in the second frame.

Minnesota shot 48.1 percent from the floor overall, while the Tigers made only 14 of their 59 shots (.237).
