A Columbus woman was thrown off her car as a thief drove away from her Biscayne Drive home late Friday, police said.

The 29-year-old woman sustained scratches to her knees during the 6:30 p.m. theft of a 1996 Buick Regal from her yard but wasn't taken to the hospital. A 3-year-old boy also was almost struck as the car left the driveway.

In a report of the theft, police said a man with curly hair and wearing pink socks entered the woman's yard and backed the vehicle out of the driveway. To prevent the theft, the woman grabbed hold of the car and yelled at the thief before she fell in the roadway.

The thief backed into the side of a parked 2003 Geo Tracker while stealing the Buick valued at $4,225. The stolen vehicle was last seen traveling west on Biscayne Drive.

The thief was described as black. He is 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing about 130 pounds. He was wearing a red shirt and an unknown color of basketball shorts.
