A man angered by his girlfriend's cleaning a room and yard used a table leg to beat the homeless and disabled woman, Columbus police reported.

The 46-year-old woman staying temporarily at a house on Willard Street said she was lying on a couch in a back room about 3:15 p.m. Sunday when her boyfriend came in and started arguing with her. The altercation escalated after the woman cleaned the room and the yard outside, police said.

The man police identified as 59-year-old Frank Lewis asked her "did she want to be the man and the woman," and when she did not answer, he pulled a leg off a table and started hitting her in the head with it "over and over again," officers said.

Lewis fled when the woman screamed, and the homeowner called police, investigators said.

Police said they were unable to get a description of Lewis' clothing because the woman "was too intoxicated to remember."
