Three thieves attack man, hijack car on 12th Avenue

A 58-year-old man was attacked by three men who hijacked his 2008 Mercury Milan late Wednesday, Columbus police said.

The man sustained several punches to the back of his head during the when his vehicle was taken sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. on 12th Avenue at Waverly Avenue.

A Columbus police officer was providing security at the Hometown Grocery on 27th Street when the victim entered the store. The man said he had been beaten and his vehicle was taken. Police said the four-door, white car was valued at $13,000.

The theft remains under investigation.
