Ignacio Scocco closed out a successful Apertura campaign on Saturday with two goals in a 3-1 win at Argentinos Juniors.
Victor Figueroa put Newell's on top after 20 minutes, but Scocco failed to extend the lead as he missed a penalty kick.
However, Scocco found the net four minutes later to put Newell's 2-0 up at the break before Arg. Juniors answered through Juan Anangono.
Scocco then sealed the win with his 13th goal of the season in the 90th minute as Newell's finished five points back of champions Velez Sarsfield.
After clinching the title last weekend, Velez ended their own campaign in style with a 3-0 triumph at Atletico Rafaela that was led by two goals from Facundo Ferreyra, while Belgrano secured a top-three finish by beating Estudiantes, 1-0, with an 87th-minute penalty kick from Claudio Perez.
Boca Juniors came from a goal down in the second half to top Godoy Cruz, 2-1, as Nicolas Blandi scored the winner in stoppage time, while Saturday's other contest ended 0-0 between Lanus and San Lorenzo.
Arsenal finished the season in the top half after earning a 1-0 win at All Boys courtesy of a first-half goal from Emilio Zelaya, while Racing snatched a 1-1 draw against Union after Ricardo Centurion's stoppage-time goal canceled out a 69th-minute tally from Nicolas Correa.
Emmanuel Gigliotti scored two goals for Colon in a 2-2 draw with Independiente and River Plate notched a 2-0 victory against San Martin with second-half goals from Manuel Lanzini Carlos Sanchez.
