A Columbus man and woman face a series of theft and cruelty to animal charges after police found stolen guns and malnourished dogs Thursday at a Meadowcliff Drive home.

Christopher Upshaw, 32, and Deonna Turner, 29, were arrested about 7:30 a.m. at 3824 Meadowcliff Drive. Upshaw is charged with two counts of theft by receiving stolen property in a 12 gauge shotgun and .45-caliber Glock pistol, misdemeanor cruelty to animals, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, misdemeanor cruelty to children and battery.

Turner also faces two counts of theft by receiving stolen property charges, possession of a sawed of shotgun and cruelty to animal charges. Both are held in the Muscogee County Jail for a 2 p.m. hearing today in Recorder's Court.

While police were at the home, officers found two dogs locked in a carport shed with no food or water available. The malnourished animals were described as "skin and bones."

The shotgun found at the home was reported stolen from Phenix City and the pistol was stolen from Columbus, police said.
