Classes at Richards Middle School on Edgewood Road were disrupted Thursday after two girls stepped off the school bus and engaged in a fist fight, Columbus police said.

The girls, ages 13 and 15, were sent home after at least six faculty and staff members were required to separate the students. Each was charged with disrupting a public school.

An off-duty police officer working school security said the girls started fighting on their way to the cafeteria about 8:45 a.m. "The fight caused a major disruption," Officer Mark Graydon said in a report. "Numerous other students could not proceed to class as the fight continued."
