Tried to create his own sale: Man arrested for swapping price tags at Walmart on Gateway Road

A 50-year-old Phenix City man allegedly switched price tags for personally made bargain prices Thursday at the Walmart Supercenter on Gateway Road in Columbus.

George Uwanawich of U.S. Highway 80 was arrested and charged with theft by taking.

Columbus police Officer Raymond Zapata was dispatched at 3:30 a.m. in reference to a theft. According to his report, he spoke with the store manager, who said she saw Uwanawich remove higher value price tags totaling $240.75 and replace them with lower value price tags totaling $107.00.
