A soldier was charged with three counts of first-degree cruelty to children Wednesday after a child was treated for injuries at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus police said.

William C. Robinson, 27, is accused in the injuries sustained by the 10-year-old boy at a Columbus apartment complex. He was arrested about 5 p.m. at Fort Benning and held in the Muscogee County Jail for a 9 a.m. Friday hearing in Recorder's Court.

Police said the alleged abused started during the week of Christmas. The boy was punched in the face, causing bruises and swelling around his eyes. On another occasion, the boy was kicked in the groin and left with black and blue bruises.
