The city’s 17th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Parade of Excellence will be Jan. 19, featuring local organizations, city officials, school bands and the Maneuver Center of Excellence Army Band, the city announced today.

Mayor Teresa Tomlinson’s newly formed Commission on Unity, Diversity and Prosperity is sponsoring the parade.

“The annual parade is one of the many events held each year in commemoration of all Dr. King sought to do to unite our world,” Tomlinson said. “It is a perfect way to launch the work of the commission under its new objectives.”

The MLK Parade will begin at 11 a.m. in Phenix City and will follow the traditional bi-city parade route. Application forms for the parade can be downloaded from columbusga.org and mailed into the mayor’s office. There is no application fee. Further information is available by calling 706-225-3163 during the hours of 8:30 a.m. through 5 p.m.
