Recap: Penn State vs. Northwestern

Dave Sobolewski scored 18 points and handed out five assists as the Northwestern Wildcats took care of the Penn State Nittany Lions, 70-54, in a Big Ten matchup at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Jared Swopshire shot 5-of-8 from the floor and scored 17 points as Northwestern (10-6, 1-2 Big Ten) snapped a two-game losing skid with the victory. Reggie Hearn netted 14 points, while Kale Abrahamson shot 3-of-5 from behind the arc and finished with 10 points.

Penn State (8-7, 0-3) got 20 points from D.J. Newbill, who has reached double figures in 13 of 15 games this season. Jermaine Marshall chipped in 13 points and Ross Travis grabbed a game-high nine boards.

The Nittany Lions led 12-8 midway through the opening period before Sobolewski led a 25-4 Northwestern run. The Wildcats held PSU to just two field goals in the final 12:04 as they led 33-18 at intermission.

Penn State hit just 32.3 percent from the field in the second half, relinquishing any opportunity to come back.

Despite the loss, PSU outscored Northwestern in the paint, 28-24. The Lions lead the all-time series with the Wildcats, 26-15.
