A 23-year-old Columbus man died early today after losing control of his motorcycle on 13th Avenue at Warren Williams Road, police said.

Samuel Vega was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma at The Medical Center about 40 minutes after the 2:26 a.m. accident. His body was sent to the crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy, said Muscogee Deputy Coroner Charles Newton.

When Columbus police arrived at the intersection, they found Vega and the black 1984 Yamaha XT600 motorcycle he was driving on the grass near the roadway.

The accident remains under investigation by the police department.
