A two-vehicle collision in Opelika, Ala., left a 25-year-old man dead Friday morning in the 800 block of Crawford Road, Lee County authorities said.
Charles Sheperd Trey Martin III of Opelika was pronounced dead a the scene of the 10:25 a.m. EST accident, said Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.
Police said Martin apparently was driving a northbound gray 1987 Nissan Pathfinder when he attempted a left turn into the Solo Food Mart. The vehicle was stuck broadside by a southbound 1995 Chevrolet pickup driven by A.C. Miles of Salem.
After the collision, both vehicles left the roadway. Miles, 66, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Martin, the sole occupant in his vehicle, was partially ejected from the passengers side after his gray SUV overturned on its side. Martin apparently wasnt wearing a seatbelt and he was pinned beneath part of the vehicle.
Alcohol was not a factor in Opelikas first traffic fatality. The accident remains under investigation by Opelika Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit.
