The red carpet at the Golden Globes Sunday night featured sexy and elegant gowns in red and black with several eye-popping spring shades. Women favored long hair with loose curls, festive manicures (perfect for E!s "manicam") and glamorous earrings. Necklines varied from strapless to plunging to halter but diamonds mostly adorned ears and fingers rather than necks.
Fashion misses: Jessica Chastain's seafoam Calvin Kline dress was a great color but the baggy halter was worrisome. The tight, nude Zuhair Murad gown worn by Jennifer Lopez was more costume than dress with its sparkly embroidery, long sleeves, high neck and train. She looked like an Halle Berry's cutouts in her print Versace gown were just weird.
Best jewels: On an evening when blinged-out necklaces were mostly absent, leave it to the glamorous Jessica Alba to go full-glitz in a gorgeous diamond necklace.
Best backless: Julianna Margulies was stunning in a black lace gown with an open back.
Best in black: Stacy Kiebler was classy in her long, strapless Armani Prive black gown with silver horizontal-line embellishments.
Best just-had-a-baby look: Claire Danes, "Homeland" star, looked amazingly well rested in a red Versace gown that she tried on for the first time Saturday night at 9 p.m: "I've been in sweat pants for quite awhile so this is fun," she said. The new mom has a one-month-old baby. "I hope I don't leak," she joked.
Best nail art: "New Girl" star Zooey Deschanel's nails were decorated with icons of tiny film strips and cameras. She wore a pearl necklace with a strapless red Oscar de la Renta gown.
Best print dress: Lucy Lui was ready for spring in her Carolina Herrera pale blue strapless dress with a tight bodice and full skirt. It had a garden print with green leaves and pink and yellow flowers.
Sexiest style: Katharine McPhee, "Smash," wore a black gown with a plunging (to a belted waist) neckline.
Sleekest: Olivia Munn, "The Newsroom," looked long and lean in a black skirted bottom with a tall slit and an emerald green and silver strapless top. Her bun completed the sleek look.
Hayden Panettiere looked like a movie star in her white mermaid gown accented with her glossy blonde locks.
Anne Hathaway, "Les Miserables," was chic in her long, sparkly, white, two-piece Chanel gown. She said, "I just felt like myself" when she tried it on.
Jennifer Lawrence's strapless red or "coralish" gown with a black belted waist was a Dior couture special.
Lena Dunham looked very different from her "Girls" character in a chocolate brown Zac Posen gown with thick, off-the-shoulder straps and a full skirt.
Amy Adams said she felt very comfortable in a champagne mermaid-style Marchesa dress with a tight lace bodice.
Naomi Watts, "The Impossible," wore a long sleeved Zac Posen gown in red.
Julianne Hough was beautiful in a big, floaty, feminine white dress with gold embellishments. Her platinum blonde punk-style hair kept the outfit looking fresh and young.
Sarah Hyland, "Modern Family," looked elegant in a black strapless gown with a jeweled belted waist and platform shoes with a ribbon near the toe.
Birthday gal Julia Louis-Dreyfus, "Veep," wore a Vera Wang corset-style strapless gown of lace under two shades of tulle.
Megan Fox chose a nude, strapless gown by Dolce & Gabbana.
Michelle Dockery, "Downton Abbey," looked modern in a two-toned gown with a gold top.
