Gardner-Webb University announced Friday that head coach Ron Dickerson Jr. has resigned after two seasons to pursue other opportunities.

Dickerson, 41, posted a 7-15 overall record, including a 3-8 mark this past season. He was 2-4 in the Big South Conference in each of his two seasons.

The son of former Temple head football coach Ron Dickerson Sr. was the first African-American head football coach in Big South history.

"I appreciate the time and effort Ron put into our football program, and wish him the best as he moves forward with his career," Gardner-Webb vice president for athletics Chuck Burch said. "We look forward to bringing on board a coach who is committed to developing a program that will allow our football team to be successful on the field, in the classroom and the community."
