Columbus police responded to the report of a car hijacking on Saturday.

According to the police report, the incident happened on Broadway around 1:30 p.m.

Police officers were dispatched to a Circle K on 4th Street where a 44-year-old Columbus man told them that his car, a silver 4-door, 2005 Toyota Corolla, was taken at gunpoint.

The man told police that around 1 p.m. he was driving on his way home when he stopped to talk to a man at the Booker T. Washington Apartments.

According to the report, he offered to give the man a ride to the Victoria Court Apartments on Broadway in exchange for drugs or cash.

The driver said the man went into an apartment and exited a short time later.

It was then that the man told the driver to give him the car. The driver said that when he told the man that he wouldn't, the man pulled a small handgun from his pocket and told the driver to get out.

The driver exited the vehicle and the man drove away going north on Broadway.
