Five questions with Dave Arwood

January 20, 2013

What are your main responsibilities as operations manager of PMB Broadcasting?

I oversee programming operations and have the opportunity to work with the best team of broadcasters in the world right here in Columbus at PMB Broadcasting.

Our locally owned, operated, and community-involved stations include Q107.3, Kissin' 99.3, Boomer 95.3, 103.7 Lite FM, 106.9 Rocks, 107.7 Ritmo Con Sabor, AM1420 News and 106.5 The Ride. I am the midday announcer at Q107.3 and afternoon drive radio host on Kissin' 99.3, in addition to serving as program director for both.

Tell us about the elusive "radio voice." Are you born with it, or is it a skill you have to perfect?

Being in radio is much more than how you sound. The key element is having "passion" for radio and being a part of it. If you truly love what you do, no matter what it is, consistent dedication and working hard to succeed at your chosen profession

will make you better at it. Radio is the same.

At PMB Broadcasting we are all passionate about what we do as radio people serving our community and being the "radio voice" listeners come to for entertainment and information.

In recent years, we've seen the rise of digital music services like Spotify. How has that impacted your job?

Not at all. Our impact on them has been bigger. Radio is the leader in the music industry. People seek radio to find the artists and music they desire and the information they need daily. Breaking local news, local weather alerts, helping local charities, and finding out what is happening in your community can't be delivered by digital music services or satellite radio.

Can reality TV competitions still produce marketable radio stars?

Absolutely! I recently had the opportunity to meet with Tate Stevens,

who won the latest "X Factor" competition. I look forward to playing his music in the near future on the radio. There is a tremendous amount of talent out there. New radio stars are always popping up. I can't wait to see who's next.

Not counting PMB Broadcasting, what's the best-kept secret in the Chattahoochee Valley?

I don't feel that it's a secret but everyone may not be aware that my wife and I own "The DJ Company." We provide entertainment for any and all occasions. We specialize in weddings and corporate events. I have been a mobile DJ for 27 years and love entertaining.
