Feb. 12: Free Couch to 5K 9-week program kicks off

The Columbus Road Runners and Big Dog Running Company kick off a 9-week Couch to 5K program on Feb. 12. Training sessions are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. at Lakebottom Park. The target race is the Celebrity Classic 5K on April 13.

The program is designed for those who want to run but don't know how to get started. Participants begin walking and running intervals and at the end of the program are able to run a 5K, which is 3.1 miles. The program is free to attend, with the only cost being the final target race registration fee.

Other Couch to 5K programs for the year include:

April 22: 9-week program begins. Tuesday and Thursday training sessions are at 6:30 p.m. at Cooper Creek Park. Target race is the Summer Solstice 5K on June 22.

June 25: 9-week program begins. Tuesday and Thursday training sessions are at 7 p.m. at Cooper Creek Park. Target race is Country's Midnight Express 5K on Aug. 24.

Aug. 27: 9-week program beings. Tuesday and Thursday training sessions are at 6:30 p.m. at Cooper Creek Park. Target race is Big Dog Howl 5K on Aug. 24.

Oct. 22: 8-week program. The first week, Tuesday and Thursday training sessions are at 6 p.m. at Cooper Creek Park. The second through eighth week training sessions are Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6 p.m. at Lakebottom Park.
