Geale outpoints Mundine to retain IBF crown

Published: January 30, 2013

Daniel Geale successfully defended his IBF middleweight title with a unanimous decision over fellow Australian Anthony Mundine on Wednesday, avenging the only loss of his professional career in the process.

Geale (29-1), who dropped a split decision to Mundine (44-5) in May of 2009, was the clear-cut winner on the scorecards in the rematch. Two judges scored the fight 117-111 in Geale's favor, with the other giving the reigning champ a 116-112 edge.

The 31-year-old Geale made his fourth title defense since capturing the belt with a split decision over German Sebastian Sylvester in May of 2011.
