A nine-month deployment for the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Benning, is coming to an end, a post spokesman said.

Spc. Erik Anderson, a spokesman for the brigade, said the first wave of 250 soldiers will begin arriving from Kuwait at 1 p.m. Friday. A welcome home celebration will be held at 3 p.m. in Freedom Hall at Lawson Army Airfield.

Since early June, about 2,000 “Sledgehammer” soldiers have been assigned to Camp Buehring, Kuwait, where they trained with U.S. regional partners and worked closely with Kuwaiti land forces in a series of joint exercises and exchanges. The brigade used pre-positioned equipment already in Kuwait.

Anderson didn’t know which soldiers would be among the first wave, but said they are troops from a variety of jobs. “There are an awful lot of jobs getting back on this one,” he said.
