PENSACOLA, Fla. — Pensacola scored four times in the second period and went to beat Columbus 5-4 on Friday night.
With the win, Penscola moved into second place in the SPHL standings with 45 points, two behind Fayetteville. Columbus is fifth with 41, three behind Louisiana and two behind Knoxville.
Trailing 1-0 in the first period, Columbus got the tying goal from Matt Gingera at the 19:43 mark on a power play. Tom Maldonado and Bret Tyler had the assists.
Pensacola scored a pair of goals in the first 5:13 of the second period for a 3-1 lead.
Mark Thorburn scored for the Snakes at 10:11 of the second with assists from Kevin Kessler and Sam Bowles. Pensacola added two more goals in the second for a 5-2 lead.
Derek Pallardy brought the Snakes within two, 5-3, just 48 seconds into the final period. Gingera had the assist. Columbus climbed back within one when Jason Yuel scored at 16:25 on a power play. Maldonado and Bowles had the assists.
Columbus travels to the Mississippi RiverKings on Saturday night.
