Columbus' Christian Garay falls in first Davis Cup match

— Columbus’ Christian Garay, who was playing for Puerto Rico, fell 6-2, 6-0, 6-3 to Daniel Garza of Mexico in the first round of their Davis Cup match on Friday.

Mexico's Migiel-Angel Reyes-Varela also beat Alex Llompart 7-6 (7), 6-3, 7-6 (4) to give Mexico a 2-0 lead. Garza is ranked No. 401 in singles, while Reyes-Varela is No. 609.

The teams will play doubles Saturday. Garay will sit out the doubles and return in the singles on Sunday against Reyes-Varela. Llompart will Garza on Sunday.

The Puerto Rico-Mexico match is being played in the Group II Americas zone.
