Boy, 5, bitten by dog on way to South Columbus Elementary

Published: February 5, 2013

A mother reported that her 5-year-old son was bitten by a dog on his way to South Columbus Elementary Monday morning, according to a Columbus Police Department report.

The mother told police that at about 7:45 a.m. her son was walking near their apartment at the Eagles Trace complex with some other children on their way to school. When a brown dog with white ears came up to the group, the boy petted its back. The dog then jumped up on the 5-year-old. When the child pushed the dog away, it bit his left thigh, leaving a small bite mark.

Police were unable to find the owner of the dog. The child was taken to the Medical Center for treatment by his mother.
