Feb. 14: Valentine's dinner, dance and concert with LaGrange Civic Chorale and Fidelity Jazz Quartet

February 6, 2013

Tickets are on sale now for “Skylark – An Evening with Johnny Mercer and Friends” a Valentine’s Night dinner, dance concert sponsored by the Choral Society of West Georgia. Only a few tables remain for the evening, according to Bettie Biggs, Conductor and Artistic Director of the LaGrange Civic Chorale. Last year’s event was a complete sellout.

“This is certain to be a wonderful night of Dinner, Dancing and Music. Everyone should bring your sweetheart and share this magical evening on Valentine's night,” stated Biggs.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a buffet prepared especially for the evening by Chef de Cuisine Corey Wyble of Highland Country Club. The menu will include: Slow Roast Chicken Osso Bucco; Braised Beef Short Ribs; Pork Scaloppini in Sherry Cream Sauce; Sweet Potato Soufflé; Cous Cous with Spinach and Roasted peppers; Mediterranean Blend Vegetables; and Asparagus Casserole; plus various desserts.

The Fidelity Jazz Quartet also will perform for dancing. Featuring percussionist Billy Kravtin, the jazz ensemble will join with the Chorale to create a romantic evening of dining and dancing. The quartet was featured in last year’s Valentine's Dinner and performed at the recent "Elegant Highland Christmas" Dinner/Dance.

The four musicians have years of professional experience, with individuals having performed with Peabo Bryson, the Johnny Carson show, recorded at CBS records and played on international stages.

Some of the Mercer songs to be performed include: "Something's Gotta Give"; "Blues In The Night"; "Too Marvelous For Words"; "One More For My Baby"; "Jeepers Creepers"; "Satin Doll"; and "Two of a Kind".

“The Fidelity Jazz Quartet is truly World-Class and the members of the group have performed all over the world, in addition to performing on the Johnny Carson show and recording for CBS records. We booked them immediately after last year’s concert and are very fortunate to have them. This will be a most entertaining and fun evening for those attending,” continued Biggs

Tickets are $45 per person, inclusive of the concert, taxes and service charges, and no seats will be sold at the door. Reservations for the dinner concert can be made by calling Ms. Margaret Hurd at 706-884-2486 or through email margarethurd@hotmail.com

The Chorale is a member of the Choral Society of West Georgia, an independent, non-profit organization committed to choral musical excellence throughout West Georgia and East Alabama. Bettie Biggs is Artistic Director and Conductor of both groups and Cindy Brown is the Chorale Society accompanist.

Repertoire includes a wide range of stylistic choral selections from Renaissance to Contemporary. Membership is available to individuals of any age. For further information regarding membership, please contact Bettie Biggs at choralsociety@charter.net or phone 706-882-2734.
