Stopping in Cooper Creek Park leads to drug arrest of man, 19

Stopping in Cooper Creek park with a woman led to the arrest of Columbus man early today, Columbus police said.

Jesse Cox, 19, was arrested about 3 a.m. in the park after police detected a strong odor of marijuana and spotted a plastic bag of the drug when Cox was asked for his driver's license. Police seized the marijuana then learned the registration on his 2004 Saturn was suspended.

In addition to possession of marijuana, he also was charged with being in the park after hours and having a suspended registration. He was held in the Muscogee County Jail on bonds totaling more than $900.

The woman in his car was turned over to her parents.
