5 QUESTIONS WITH WARREN THORNTON

February 10, 2013

How many sax-o-grams do you expect to deliver for Valentine's Day?

I expect to deliver around 50 for the month and 20-25 for Valentine's Day. I look forward to seeing the reactions. It's the perfect element of surprise because everyone except the individual receiving the sax-o-gram knows what's going on.

For example, when I go to a job site people have to scramble to get the individual in place. Then, that person wonders why everyone is acting so funny. After that, I pull my horn from a gift bag and the recipient screams. Usually, the reactions include a high level of joy and tears.

What are some of the most popular song requests you receive?

"Always and Forever" and "Ribbon in the Sky" are among the most popular song requests I receive. I feel these songs are requested because I deal with couples. Both of these songs are wedding songs. A couple may have walked to the altar while a certain song played at their wedding. Hearing that song again can trigger all of those emotions.

When selecting a song for a sax-o-gram, I ask questions and probe the sender about what songs they enjoyed when they were dating. Technology is wonderful. I go online and learn the song so I can customize it for their situation.

In your opinion, what are the top three love songs of all time?

I think "Unforgettable," "At Last" and "I Will Always Love You" are the top three love songs of all time.

Almost everyone has heard "Unforgettable." Who hasn't tried to sing that melody in the shower? "At Last" remains popular because Etta James had very powerful delivery in her voice. She sang the song from her soul. Many of today's artists still perform the tune.

Regarding "I Will Always Love You" performed by the late, great Whitney Houston -- need I say more? You might have a vocalist of that magnitude once in a century.

Some people love Valentine's Day, while others call it a cheesy "Hallmark holiday." Where do you stand in the debate?

Valentine's Day can be any day. There's nothing wrong with taking time out to show love. Some guys are natural romantics and they have no worries in this area. The majority struggle.

I'm blessed with the opportunity to make them very romantic and help them create a Hallmark moment.

Other than your business, what's the best-kept secret in the Chattahoochee Valley?

I think the best-kept secret in the Chattahoochee Valley is Butler's Cabin. It's a Columbus restaurant where I play from time to time. It has great food and great people.
