Timbers' Dike to undergo surgery

Published: February 11, 2013

Portland Timbers forward Bright Dike will undergo surgery on Monday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Dike, 26, was injured in the first half of Portland's preseason match against Seattle Sounders FC on Feb. 5.

Dike was one of the club's leading scorers last season, posting five goals in 12 matches over the final half of the campaign. He also found the net five times in five appearances with the Timbers' reserve squad last term.

Also on Monday, Portland traded midfielder Eric Alexander to Red Bull New York in exchange for allocation money.

Alexander, 24, played in 24 matches last season and recorded a career-high six assists. Over 69 career matches with Portland and FC Dallas, Alexander has two goals and nine assists.
