Canada's Occean receives six-match ban

Published: February 11, 2013

Canada forward Olivier Occean has been handed a six-match suspension by FIFA after he was ejected from a World Cup qualifier against Cuba.

Occean received his marching orders during a scuffle in Canada's 3-0 win over Cuba on Oct. 12, and according to FIFA, the ban comes because he committed an "act of unsporting conduct" then used "offensive language" toward the match officials.

The 31-year-old served the first of his six-game ban in Canada's 8-1 defeat to Honduras, which knocked the team out of qualifying.

Occean's ban must be served in competitive matches and the remaining five games will start with this summer's Gold Cup in July.
