Wambach scores in 200th U.S. appearance

Published: February 13, 2013

Abby Wambach continued her pursuit of Mia Hamm's goal record on Wednesday as she scored in the second half of a 3-1 United States victory against Scotland in a friendly.

Megan Rapinoe netted the lone goal of the first half in the 21st minute, while Wambach made her 200th appearance for the national team a memorable one as she scored early in the second half to make it a 2-0 game and take her career goals tally to 153, five behind Hamm for the all-time U.S. mark.

Christen Press stole the headlines in the team's first game of the year against Scotland this past Saturday as she scored two goals in her debut with the senior national team. And Press was at it again on Wednesday as she scored two minutes after entering the game as a substitute for Wambach.

Suzanne Grant tallied a consolation goal for Scotland nine minutes from time, while the U.S. will now turn its attention to the Algarve Cup as the team opens the competition against Iceland on March 6.
