Auburn University student charged in thefts of book bags, laptops

An Auburn University student is accused of stealing book bags with students laptop computers and other items. police said.

Frank L. Porter V was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of theft of property second degree, police said in a statement. He was taken to the Lee County Detention Center and held on $6,000 bond.

Porter’s arrest stems from a report of two book bag thefts from the Ralph B. Draughon Library on campus. The book bags contained laptop computers and other items.

Based on a description of a person spotted in the area, police found Porter nearby and took him into custody. The suspect was in possession of the laptops and other additional property.

Auburn police said he could face additional charges if other victims are identified.
