Hearing delayed in Club Majestic shooting

Published: February 16, 2013

A second suspect charged in the New Year’s Day shooting that left a Columbus man dead and six others injured at Club Majestic will be in Recorder’s Court on Monday.

Shaquille Porter, 20, faces a murder charge in the death of 24-year-old Charles Foster Jr. and six counts of aggravated assault in wounding six people at the 2102 Cusseta Road club. He also faces two counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime and a theft by receiving stolen property charge.

A hearing was set for Saturday but it was delayed until 9 a.m. Monday because Porter wanted to use a different attorney to represent him, said police Lt. Lynn Joiner.

“The lawyer he had is not the one that’s going to be representing him,” Joiner said. “He was the one filling in because the other lawyer was tied up.”

Police already has charged Dequandrea Truitt, 21, with murder and assault charges in connection with Foster’s death and injuries to people inside and outside the club also known as Majestic Sports Bar.

A week ago, Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson said her office has taken the first step in the process to shut down the club as a public nuisance.
