Cost breakdown of proposed renovation to Columbus Public Library

This is the first draft of the budget for the proposed $1 million renovation of the 8-year-old Columbus Public Library, which was a $50.4 million project funded by a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax:

SITE

• Parking (three areas) -- $45,000

• Fence, other improvements -- $15,000

• Landscaping, pavers -- $10,000

FIRST FLOOR

• Meetings rooms and associated spaces -- $36,000

• Auditorium steps -- $3,000

• Young adults, periodicals -- $39,000

• Children's room -- $50,000

• New information desk in rotunda -- $10,000

• Rework area at existing circulation desk -- $30,000

• Other general refinishing -- $40,000

SECOND FLOOR

• AV/digital media -- $100,000

• Computers in former periodicals area -- $60,000

• New information desk -- $35,000

• Quiet area -- $95,000

• Study room in genealogy -- $19,000

• Rework e-commons and copy room -- $155,000

• Other general refinishing -- $165,000

THIRD FLOOR

• Refinish public space and other areas -- $10,000

OTHER

• 5 percent contingency -- $45,850

• 6 percent design fee -- $55,020
