The Georgia High School Association released its final power ratings on Tuesday, which are used to determine teams and seeding for the postseason in Class A public and private.

The Brookstone girls were rated 12th, good enough to advance to the postseason, while the boys were rated 17th, leaving them on the outside looking in.

Cougars athletic director Brad Dehem said the boys team will appeal, but it wasn’t likely the decision would be overturned.

Opponents for the postseason will be determined on Wednesday, Feb. 20 once all appeals have been heard.

The 2012-13 academic year is the first power ratings have been used to determine the postseason for Class A, which split into two divisions, public and private. Region champions earn an automatic bid to the state tournaments, while the remaining spots are filled based on teams’ ratings. The ratings are determined by a combination of a team’s own record as well as that of their opponents.

First-round games for both girls and boys will be played on Friday and Saturday.

Calvary Christian teams playing in GISA playoffs

Both Calvary girls and boys teams ill play in the GISA state basketball tournament beginning this week.

The girls, a 3-seed in Region 3-AAA, play the Heritage School at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Tattnall Square Academy in Macon. The boys, a 2-seed, play the Heritage School at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 at Stratford Academy in Macon.
